An Afghan-Canadian filmmaker committed to sharing engaging stories with global audiences. Brishkay is the writer and co-director of Afghanistan’s prime time drama series Between You and Me (Tolo TV/2013) and director and editor of Story of Our Independence (RTA/2019). Throughout her career, her projects have been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Creative BC, Bravo TV, CMF, CBC, NFB, and BC Arts Council. Her feature documentary, Unveiled: The Kohistan Video Scandal, was supported by Super Channel, also broadcast on Al Jazeera, is distributed by Java Films. Brishkay Ahmed was selected to create the short speculative documentary, Aryana Resurrected, for Cinema Politica's Next 150 Documentary Futurism initiative. Her hybrid documentary,Story of Burqa, was supported by Super Channel and the National Film Board of Canada, and featured in the World Policy Institute Blog.
Brishkay Ahmed studied film production at New York University, then furthered her education in new media through Simon Fraser University and journalism through Langara College. Brishkay Ahmed serves on the Documentary Organization Board of Canada, BC Chapter. Her 2020 media projects include the feature documentary, We Are Not Our Mothers, and the interactive web project, Fatima.
